Practical design guidance from the Stone Universe team, informed by more than 25 years of supplying premium natural stone across the United States.
Create an entrance with character
A cobblestone driveway changes the experience of arriving home. Granite cobbles offer visual depth, human-scaled surface patterns, and character that remains attractive as the stone ages.
Use cobblestone for the full driveway, an apron, border courses, parking courts, or the transition between a paved street and landscaped entrance.
The foundation matters more than the pattern
Vehicle loads demand carefully engineered subgrades, base depth, compaction, drainage, and edge restraint. A qualified installer should choose an assembly suited to your soil, expected traffic, and freeze-thaw conditions.
Real stone is not simply a finish. It is part of the architecture and the way a place is experienced.
Use patterns and borders to define space
Running bond, fan patterns, herringbone, and contrasting border courses create distinctly different arrivals. A restrained color palette lets the stone's texture do the work.
Coordinate driveway cobbles with entry steps, wall caps, lighting, and adjacent walkways so the landscape feels intentional.
